GRIPE Organizes Community Buyback Event in Kumasi to commemorate World Clean up Day

As part of efforts to commemorate World Clean-Up Day, GRIPE partnered with Premier Waste Services to organize a Community Plastic Buyback Event which is purposely for the purchase of plastic waste from inhabitants as well as creating awareness on efficient waste management. The event took place on the 19th of September 2020 at Asawasi. It was a three 3 hour event that started with a community engagement on the need to segregate waste their waste, keep their home and communities clean and support recycling efforts in the country. The team then proceeded to buy back plastic waste from inhabitants. Volunteers from No Business as Usual, Recycle Up Ghana, EcoCENT were on hand to support the event.  The Unit committee for the area also provided enormous support to enable a smooth organization of the event. The members of the community who participated by bringing their plastic waste were excited. The team recorded a total of 1,697 kg of plastic waste at the end of the Community Buy-Back project at Asawasi
