We take a value chain approach to recycling which means working on everything from consumer awareness education as well as collection and sorting infrastructure, to developing the recycling industry in Ghana. With this mindset, in 2018 one of our founding members – Dow – partnered with the Asase Foundation to build a plastic recycling plant in Katamanso. The center was designed to produce plastic regrinds for local recyclers, thus maximizing the value created for the informal people working on plastic waste collection. The processing plant was launched by the Asase Foundation in November of 2018 with the aim of developing it towards a community social enterprise. It has been designed to process 20 tons per month of plastic waste.
